Join award winning artist printmaker Tessa Pearson for a 2 day exploration into the process of mono-screen-printing.
Over the course of this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore the process of producing unique painted monotypes by painting directly onto the unmasked, open mesh of a silkscreen. The process is spontaneous and expressive, allowing for the introduction of drawn lines, collage, and stencils to further enhance your work.
This workshop is perfect for artists looking to explore colour, texture, and spontaneous mark-making within printmaking. By the end of the two days, you’ll leave with a collection of vibrant, multi-layered prints, and a deeper understanding of the mono-screen-printing process.
Itinerary:
Day 1.
Introduction to screen monoprints – we will look at various contemporary artists who have used this technique and Tessa will explain her process of working with lots of examples, followed by a demonstration of painting and printing a single layer print. You will have explanation of colour /paint mixing and use of mediums, and we will look at various paper options.
You will mix some colours and make some simple monoprints, familiarising yourself with the technique. At this point you will not be concerned with imagery.
We will discuss possible subject matter and you will make some first layer prints ready for tomorrow.
Day 2.
Tessa will demonstrate how to do second layers on monoprints, and we will explore other possibilities using water-soluble crayons/ stencils and masks. You will then continue with printing second layers on top of prints begun on Day 1, and experiment with other drawing and stencil techniques.
We will finish the day with a show of work to inspire and encourage.
Experience level
No previous experience is needed for this course. This is a great course for beginners and those who need a refresher, and is perfect as a lead-in to membership of WYPW, so that you can continue to use and develop the techniques you have learned.
