About the event

Toward Truths and Reconciliation: A Writing Workshop
Join JKD and guest artist Kurt RuKim for an evening of collective nourishment, learning, and creative expression.

About this Event

Background: Inspired by recent global adoptee-led work on truth and reconciliation, this event envisions what this framework to address adoptee human rights could look like on a local scale using life writing and guided movement to activate individually connected thriving.

Featuring Jennifer Kwon Dobbs and guest artist Kurt RuKim.

This gathering invites adoptees to explore what truths and reconciliation could mean and look like—personally, somatically, and in community.

Through poetry, writing, movement, and conversation, we will practice affirming our lived experiences in ways that honor complexity, contradiction, and care. This is a space to explore your truths without pressure to resolve, justify, or explain it.

  • What do truths feel like in your body?
  • How do we make room for multiple, shifting truths as adoptees navigating identity, loss, and belonging?
  • What might individual reconciliation look like when no apology is offered?

Guided prompts and embodied practices will support participants in naming and expressing what feels real and resonant—whether that’s through words, silence, stillness, or motion.

This evening is not about performance, but presence. Whether you're new to writing or have long used it as a creative tool, you are welcome here. Adoptees of all backgrounds are invited to co-create a space where our truths can be witnessed, held, and honored—together.

**This gathering is intentionally limited to 20 participants to support depth, connection, and care. A waitlist will be available once the event fills.

Jennifer Kwon Dobbs is a fiscal year 2024 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund
