Join fellow community members in a night of art, resources, resistance, and root beer! In this low-key space, we will support one another and tap into some of our collective power.
As Joan Baez once said, “Action is the antidote to despair.” So let us not despair! Instead, let us drink rootbeer and get some work done.
If you’re new to activism, don’t know where to start, or aren’t sure if you’re “that type” of person, this space is a great fit for you. If you find yourself really wanting to make a change, but then find yourself routinely burnt out or overwhelmed, we welcome you here! R&R is intended to be a gentle and supportive space to build community, listen to some art, maybe email some reps, and explore possibilities for a sustainable activism home. (If you ARE super involved, we'd love to have you too, and glean from you the tips and tricks you might have for staying involved!)
If you’re like me, you often end up feeling so overwhelmed that you can’t fix everything that you end up doing nothing instead. R&R is a place to do something, even if that something feels small. If we all do something small, it will add up to a whole lot.
If we are going to resist this current political regime, we need all kinds-- we need you! At R&R, we are not going to let the drive for perfection stand in the way of progress. Our goal is not to say or do the perfect thing all of the time; our goal is to continuously strive for ways that we can make a difference, however small. So show up as you are (heck, you can even just come for a free rootbeer), and let’s make a little bit of change together.
Who: You! Anyone who is against the current political regime. Maybe you’d like our National Parks to still be protected (and not get drilled for oil). Maybe you believe that trans people should have human rights. Maybe you don’t want to see tax increases for the lower and middle classes while billionaires get massive tax breaks. You don’t need to be a seasoned activist to make a change; we’ve got tons of ideas of ways you can plug in, at whatever level you’re at.
What: An evening of community, art, and resource sharing (plus, of course, rootbeer). There will be 15 minutes to get your drinks and settle in, followed by 45 minutes of performances, followed by a short Q&A, followed by 45 minutes-ish of unstructured community time, where you can collect zines, write a postcard to your representatives, and chat with like-minded people. (If you’re an introvert, you can also just grab a fistful of zines and leave--no pressure).
Masks required!
