Back by popular demand! This informative workshop will provide participants with hands-on training to identify local species of seagrass and macroalgae and to familiarize them with seagrass survey methodologies. The workshop will include an informal presentation and in-water mock field survey training exercise (i.e., line intercept, quadrat) utilizing sallow water areas of the park (3-to-8 foot water depths). This event restricted to members and adults only (18+).
SFAEP and the instructor panel will review seagrass (and macroalgae) identification and survey protocols and agency recommendations, including the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and Miami-Dade County Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources Division of Environmental Resource Management (RER DERM).

This is an outdoor event - please bring sun protection, water, a brown bag lunch, and snorkel gear (gloves, mask, snorkel, fins, booties, rash guard) and be prepared to enter the shallow water marine environment. Invite a friend to attend! There are restroom facilities conveniently located nearby. Please bring cash for the $10 park entry fee and meet at the Green Pavillion for check-in and welcom no later than 9:00am. Please bring a plastic clipboard if you have one available for this practice.
