About this Event

The Power of Partnerships: A Community Conversation on Aligning Government, Nonprofits, and Business

Overview

Strong communities are built on strong connections. The Power of Partnerships invites residents of District 9 to come together and explore how collaboration between local government, nonprofits, and the business community can address urgent needs—from job creation and resource access to public safety. This conversation is a chance to share what’s working, identify gaps, and build a shared vision for a more connected, responsive, and opportunity-filled District 9.

Why This Matters

A recent survey of District 9 residents revealed key challenges that affect quality of life and community well-being.

  • Employment Concerns: 62.26% of residents believe there are not enough jobs available in their area. This reflects a need for increased job access, workforce development efforts, and business engagement in local hiring.
  • Community Resources Satisfaction: Only 33.96% of respondents feel local resources meet their needs—pointing to a significant gap in either service availability or awareness.
  • Public Safety: 45.29% of residents do not feel safe or are unsure about their safety. This highlights the importance of building trust, improving neighborhood conditions, and strengthening preventative partnerships.

By aligning the efforts of government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and local businesses, District 9 can create more equitable access to opportunity and address persistent barriers to progress.

What to Expect

Expert Insights – Hear from subject matter expert Beverly Robertson on the power of cross-sector collaboration, the challenges facing District 9, and how public-private partnerships can transform outcomes for residents.

Community Conversations – Engage in small group discussions with fellow residents to identify challenges, surface local knowledge, and share ideas for partnership-driven solutions.

Resource Fair – Explore services and opportunities available in your area. Organizations offering job training, safety programs, small business resources, and nonprofit services will be on-site to share information.

Action Planning – Work together to define next steps for your community. From creating stronger referral networks to designing community-driven projects, residents will have a voice in shaping what comes next.

Who Should Attend?

Residents of District 9—especially those in 38109 and 38116—are encouraged to attend, along with community leaders, business owners, educators, service providers, and anyone who wants to strengthen partnerships that improve lives. Whether you’ve experienced resource gaps, safety concerns, or job challenges, your insight is essential to the solution.
