General Information:
The CAOS Climbing Camp for 8-10 year old campers is a day camp designed to introduce the basic skills related to rock climbing and rappelling and is facilitated by faculty and/or staff of the Garrett College Center for Adventure and Outdoor Studies. Participants will learn about equipment, knots, movement skills and climbing systems.
Each day participants will meet with the camp instructors at the Garrett College Community Aquatics & Recreation Complex (CARC) at 9 a.m. Participants and instructors will return each day to the CARC at 12:30 p.m.
Campers will travel in Garrett College vehicles from the CARC to a climbing site that is appropriate to the climbers’ ability levels and to the current weather conditions. Sites may include the Fork Run Recreation Area, Coopers Rock State Forest and regional climbing gyms. Games, initiatives and day hikes may also be included. No experience is necessary to participate.

• Introduction to rock climbing at Coopers Rock State Forest

• Daily focus: Basic systems and risk management
Tuesday
• Rock climbing at Coopers Rock State Forest
• Daily focus: Rock climbing practice and rappelling (Sunset Wall
Area)
Wednesday
• Fork Run Recreation area or indoor climbing at Frostburg State University
• Daily focus: Movement skills and bouldering
Thursday
• Rock climbing and rappelling at Coopers Rock State Forest
(Upper Rock City Area)
• Daily focus: Belay techniques and communication
