How the Hound Calcutta Works
The Calcutta is set for an exciting evening, showcasing six “lots” of two first-season hounds—each pair brimming with hunting promise.
*The Preview:
Katherine will present each pair, sharing their stories, some with ribbons from prestigious hound shows like Iroquois and Bryn Mawr, others with champion bloodlines, and many with sires and dams proven in the hunting field. Every lot starts on equal footing, no handicaps, so each bidder has a fair shot at securing hounds bred for the chase. You’ll also get to meet the young new-entry hounds in person, perfect for getting hands-on, checking their conformation, and maybe even falling in love before you bid.
*The Bidding:
When bidding opens, you can go it alone or form a syndicate (a group of bidders pooling resources). Syndicates boost buying power, making it possible to win top lots that might stretch a solo bidder’s budget. By spreading the investment across a group, you also spread the risk, while increasing your chances of backing a future field star.
*Extra Fun:
Alongside the hound bidding, there will be an assortment of silent auction baskets up for grabs, perfect for adding a little extra competition and fun to the evening.
*The Strategy:
Katherine’s review will help you size up each pair’s potential, whether it’s show-ring success, impeccable breeding, or raw hunting talent. With your notes in hand, place your bids, claim your pair, and cheer them on through the season. The hounds’ performance in the field will determine bragging rights, and maybe even winnings, for their lucky backers.
