Blue Apple Books is honored to welcome local songwriter/performer Jim Parker and artist Don Howard as they introduce A Man Like Me, a book featuring extraordinary works of prose, poetry, and visual art, coupled with forthright artist statements which weave Jim and Don's perspectives on both the topics and their own life experiences throughout this unique creative collaboration.
Attendees can preorder books using the link here and pick them up anytime during the event, which will feature brief presentations by Jim and Don, some music, lots of laughter, and an opportunity to speak with both men and have them sign your book(s).
Huntsville's music and art scene have been indelibly impacted by both of these men, and we can't wait to have them together, with all of you, as we celebrate their work!
ABOUT JIM:
Jim Parker is the creator/producer/host of Jim Parker’s Songwriters Series ® in Huntsville, and an ASCAP award winner.
As a performing artist, Jim had 5 albums and 10 singles; he was the co-writer of "Chicken Truck" recorded by John Anderson (1980), co-writer/co-publisher of "Bigger Hands" recorded by John Anderson (2009), primary co-writer of “Better With Time” Billy Droze (201)7. Jim is the publisher of HenKid Music (BMI) and a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association International.
Within a year after getting his first guitar donated by his sister’s boyfriend, Jimmy Gilmer of Sugar Shack fame, he was playing in a band and later became a founding member of The Illusions. After many years of playing with bands and musicians (including SOnny and Cher) and writing songs for many performers in Nashville, including John Anderson.
Jim is the creator and host of a popular series at the Von Braun Center Playhouse in Huntsville, AL since 2005 called Jim Parker’s Songwriters Series ® where he showcases the incredible talent of his hit songwriter friends from Nashville, Muscle Shoals, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Canada and surrounding areas.

ABOUT DON
Don embarked on his career as a caricature artist 40+ years ago in Denison, Texas. Upon graduation from high school in Ozark, AL, he enrolled in Hampton University on a football scholarship. After completing his studies at Hampton University, Don began his career at Disney Studios in Burbank, CA. While at Disney, he worked on projects for Robin Hood and Winnie the Pooh. It was during this time that he became keenly interested in the art of caricature.
After 15+ years at Disney, Don relocated to Huntsville, AL and after establishing Don Howard Studios, he made a personal decision to concentrate on the art of caricature. Since his decision, he has not looked back- - -caricatures are his only form of artistic expression.
Don works tirelessly to develop caricatures that are not only humorous and provocative, but also professionally crafted.
