Herbal Basics: Herbal Skin Care

Herbal Basics is for those who want to learn to confidently use locally available herbs and “weeds" in a fun, casual setting.

In August it’s our tradition to stay out of the heat and celebrate ourselves in a day of pampering! We'll start class learning about one of our largest organs, the skin. We'll include learning about anti-infective herbs and wound care.  We’ll discuss natural skin care (beauty isn't skin deep) and then prepare everything we need for a facial steam, cleanse, mask, tone and moisturize and do a facial.  If you don't want to, you'll never need to buy products for this again! Please bring a large metal or plastic bowl and towel to class. 

In Herbal Basics you'll learn about the herbs right outside your door and already in your kitchen cupboard, the ones traditionally used when the need arose. You'll learn to prepare the basics: teas, decoctions, infusions, honeys, syrups, candies, tinctures, salves and more.

And, yes, tonics to keep you healthy like elderberry elixer/sambucol, vitamin syrup and hawthorn tonics.

We’ll look at herbs for the different ages and stages of life to help support our health and those of the ones we love, including our pets.

Our kitchen time will be fruitful. You can expect to go home each month with an addition to your apothecary. Every family and community should have someone who knows how to tend a wound, sooth a belly ache and calm frayed nerves as well as knowing when something more serious needs to be done.
