According to provisional data from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), overdoses are predicted to decline by 24% in the United States for the 12 months ending in September 2024 compared to the previous year. This is a drop of over 27,000 deaths over a single year, which is unprecedented. That’s more than 70 lives saved every day. While the data is moving in a favorable direction, overdose remains the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18-44.

As we have learned, overdose can happen to anyone, anywhere, and does not discriminate based on age, race, gender, social economic status, or neighborhood. It could be our client, coworker, neighbor, friend, or family member. Therefore, we must continue to ensure that we are all prepared to save a life in the event of an overdose emergency.
