A beautiful 10-mile (16-km) circular route over Warley, Wadsworth and Midgeley Moors, on the South Pennines. This route takes us from Jerusalem Farm nature reserve in Luddenden Dean, through the little woodland and up onto Warley Moor. We will visit Warley Moor Reservoir and head round the edge of the Castle Carr Estate, heading to the the trig point above Crow Hill and on to Churn Milk Joan.
Expect peaceful moorland views, wild and windswept, and the sounds of birds, such as the curlew and skylark.
There is a fair bit of elevation on this route (1,400ft / 427m), with a couple of steep sections, but on the whole we take a moorland route which contours along the side of the hills.
This would be a moderate walk on uneven terrain, with some lanes and tracks as well as moorland paths. We would epxect this route to take around 5 - 5.5 hours.
Well behaved, friendly dogs are welcome, but will need to be on leads around livestock. They must also be agile or small enough to get over stiles easily.
