From original swampy blues inspired from many trips to Nola and Austin with greasy and seasoned vocals, James performs Blues, Jazz and Latin guitar, originals and classics.
James Speiser is a man of many hats, literally & figuratively. Guitarist, singer, songwriter, & bandleader of
Roots &
Rhythm.. He's also spent a considerable amount of time as the band manager & booking agent. Rarely short on energy,
James also found time to host his own radio show, produce the film Blue Roots Denver for the Five Points Jazz Festival "Jazz on Film Series", & produce/direct the Blue Roots Denver tv show that featured many of Denver's top blues & jazz musicians.
Community-minded, James tries to connect Denver's Jazz, Blues, and Swing Dance scenes to work together; benefitting each other & honoring the rich music history of Denver, especially the Five Points neighborhood.
James is a veteran of the music scenes in Denver, Austin, & San Francisco, playing professionally over 25 years. He honed his gritty, soulful vocal & guitar stylings the hard way...by playing many years on the street, even in Denver's sub-zero temps.
He's no stranger to life's challenges; he's seen & experienced more than most. And that comes out in his music. It's what makes his style & interpretations so unique. And real. You hear his heartfelt love for the blues coming from a place of knowing.
