Beyond Baroque and 826LA welcome you for an evening to showcase your talents on stage! Youth and community members will have a chance to share their poetry, music, storytelling, and creative energy at Beyond Baroque's prolific Wanda Coleman Theater housed in the historic original Venice City Hall building!
Students from 826LA's summer writing workshops will be featuring new work, so be sure to come join them on the mic or support our future creatives! The event will be MC'ed by Ariadne Makridakis Arroyo.
This is an all-ages event geared towards teens and young adults, please be respectful of the space, crowd, and fellow performers. All participants on the open mic have 5 minutes to share. Sign ups start at 5:45 PM on-site!
Light refreshments will be provided.
About Beyond Baroque
Beyond Baroque is one of the United States' leading independent Literary | Arts Centers and public spaces dedicated to expanding the public's knowledge of poetry, literature and art through cultural events and community interaction. Founded in 1968 as an experimental literary magazine, Beyond Baroque is based out of the original City Hall building in Venice, California. The Center offers a diverse variety of literary and arts programming including readings and workshops. The building also houses a bookstore with the largest collection of new poetry books for sale. Many of the city's leading literary talents, including Dennis Cooper, Wanda Coleman, Tom Waits, Exene Cervenka and Amy Gerstler, are alumni of the Wednesday night poetry workshop. Many of the world’s most well-known artists, including Patti Smith, Amanda Gorman, Dana Gioia, and Viggo Mortensen have performed on its stage.
About 826LA
826LA is a Los Angeles–based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6–18 with their creative and expository writing skills and helping teachers inspire their students to write. Programs are structured around one-on-one attention. 826LA was founded in 2005 and is one of several chapters of 826 National. To serve students across Los Angeles' various regions, there are two locations: 826LA in Mar Vista and 826LA in Echo Park.
Event attendees are expected to behave in a respectful and considerate manner while in our space. Beyond Baroque reserves the right to remove individuals from our events, virtual or otherwise, if they are not respecting the space, staff, fellow attendees, or performers.
