​Discover the transformative art of Kintsugi with Kat —a certified Kintsugi artist whose workshops blend creativity, mindfulness, and personal growth. Rooted in the ancient Japanese practice of mending broken pottery with gold, Kat’s Modern Kintsugi sessions offer a unique opportunity to embrace imperfections and find beauty in the broken world around us.

Materials

Kat will be providing all the necessary tools along with a broken ceramic piece for you to mend. However, if you'd like to bring your own broken item, here are some tips:

✔ Best Items for Your First Kintsugi Experience:

• A ceramic cup, plate, or bowl with no more than four breaks (simpler pieces are easier for beginners).
• Avoid glass, as it shatters and is not ideal for this method.
• Avoid highly sentimental pieces for your first attempt—we recommend starting with a practice piece first.
• If you wear reading glasses, bring them along! Kintsugi involves fine details, and many participants have found glasses helpful.

Kintsugi Kits will be available for purchase at the workshop for $70. Each kit contains enough lacquer to repair 10+ small ceramic pieces.

Kat Kusumori (McDowell) is a singer-songwriter and certified Kintsugi artist trained by a master in Japan. Born in Tokyo and raised in New Zealand, her journey blends two cultures and reflects the heart of Kintsugi—embracing imperfections. Through music and Kintsugi, Kat shares a message of healing, resilience, and finding beauty in the broken. Her workshops go beyond repair, offering a hands-on way to reconnect, reflect, and create something meaningful from what was once broken.
