Winner of the 2023 Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition, N’Famady Kouyaté is a dynamic master musician originally from Guinea (Conakry), now making waves from his base in Cardiff, Wales. A true virtuoso of the balafon—the traditional wooden xylophone sacred to West African culture—he blends the rich rhythms of Mandingue music with elements of jazz, pop, indie, and funk, creating an exhilarating fusion that captivates audiences worldwide.
N’Famady first caught the spotlight supporting Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals) on tour, and since then, his high-energy performances have lit up major festival stages across the UK, Ireland, and the US, from Green Man and Latitude to South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. His live shows—whether solo or with a full band—are a vibrant, multi-layered experience featuring an eclectic mix of balafon, kora, djembe, drums, brass, bass, and guitar, all driven by his infectious enthusiasm and rhythmic precision.
His 2021 debut EP, recorded at the legendary Rockfield Studios, saw collaborations with Gruff Rhys, Lisa Jên Brown (9Bach), and Kliph Scurlock (The Flaming Lips), blending traditional Guinean melodies with fresh, contemporary twists. Now, with his highly anticipated debut album on the horizon for late 2024, N’Famady is gearing up for another thrilling year of live performances.
This is a show bursting with rhythm, energy, and joy—don’t miss out on the chance to witness this rising star in action!
