About the event

Understanding Memory Loss
Worldwide, more than 55 million people are living with Alzheimer's or another dementia. Whatever your age, it is crucial to get familiar with brain health and learn what steps you can take if you or someone you love has memory concerns.

As we observe Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month in June, come and learn about the difference between normal age-related memory changes and abnormal changes that are associated with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, including some of the common warning signs. You will explore what dementia is, what causes it and whether it is a reversible condition of a neurodegenerative disease.

The presentation also reviews what should be done and the importance of receiving a thorough diagnostic evaluation when memory concerns or symptoms first arise. Risk factors for cognitive decline and brain health strategies that will help to prevent or delay the onset of decline in brain health will be reviewed. Advances in treatment of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia will be touched upon as well.

Jenna Noecker, BSW is a Programs and Services Specialist at Alzheimer’s New Jersey. She is a former resident of Livingston and attended Livingston High School. Prior to working at Alzheimer’s New Jersey, Jenna worked with the homeless population and children with special needs through internships while attending Monmouth University.

Alzheimer’s New Jersey is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping and supporting the people and families in New Jersey who are impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia. They are a separate organization from the Alzheimer’s Association, all of their programs and funding being specifically for the residents in NJ. They offer a variety of free programs and services that can help support and educate caregivers as they navigate this difficult disease.
