Mummy Unwrapping - Live!

On 30 March 1903 the Director of the Liverpool Free Public Museums (now World Museum) unwrapped the remains of Ditamunpaseneb before an audience of public visitors. This was one of many 'public unwrappings' that took place across Europe and North America in the 1800s and 1900s.

In this special after-hours event we will recreate that evening. Henry Ogg Forbes and his assistant will unwrap the mummified remains of an Ancient Egyptian noblewoman in a recreation of an event that took place in this very museum over 100 years ago. Participants will learn more about the processes of mummification, Ancient Egyptian beliefs about the afterlife, and how our attitude towards the study and display of human remains has changed since the Edwardian Period.

Tickets cost £25 and include access to the museum after hours, a theatrical recreation of an Edwardian unwrapping, and a welcome drink on arrival.
