What is sashiko?
Sashiko is a Japanese embroidery that translates as ‘little stabs’. Traditionally, it was a decorative stitch used to mend and strengthen worn clothes. Today is it often used for visible mending or embellishing clothes.
Workshop summary
During this relaxing workshop, we will learn about the origins of sashiko and how to stitch a number of different patterns. We will be able to try a number of different sashiko patterns, learning how to transfer and stitch the pattern. After completing the patterns, you will be able to use them to customise a fabric bag.
Each attendee will receive their own sashiko needle and threads, template, fabric and a bag which you will be able to take home to continue to explore this mindful embroidery.
Previous sewing experience is not necessary and all equipment and materials will be provided.
