History Alive! 18th Century Fishing “Hook, Line, and Sinker!”

Fishing enthusiasts will not want to miss Leon Briggs of the Seneca Tonawanda's 18th century fishing demonstration during History Alive! on Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22.

Learn why fishing became an important part of Pennsylvania’s history for both personal and commercial use. Leon will take a deep dive into making fishing hooks, lines, nets and other fishing gear of the time period.

While you’re here, learn about Fort Ligonier’s original name – the Post at Loyalhanning, named after the creek that flowed beside the fortification and is, today, one of Pennsylvania’s most popular trout fishing streams.

History Alive! at Fort Ligonier is an engaging experience for visitors to learn more about the daily life of a frontier military outpost in North America during the 18th century. Through daily programming depicting typical activities of a military site such as soldiering, manual labor, tailoring, laundry, and cooking, and special weekend demonstrations from 18th century artisans, History Alive! portrays the people who fought and lived at Fort Ligonier during the Forbes Campaign of 1758
