Who is Claude Cahun? Participatory Event for Young People
We invite young people associated with Leicestershire LGBTQ+ Centre, to join us at the Sue Townsend Theatre for an exciting and interactive workshop exploring the life and work of the queer, trans, artist Claude Cahun (nee Lucy Schwob). Led by a queer Workshop Leader and two professional actors (both AFAB), the team will share key scenes from the new play, "Who is Claude Cahun?" which runs for 4 weeks at Southwark Playhouse in London in June/July, prior to a national tour.
Young participants (aged 12 -18) will have an opportunity to see three scenes from the play, to hot seat the characters, comment on the play and script, and take part in safe discussion and debate. We will delve into the world of this courageous artist who with their life long partner, Marcel Moore (nee Suzanne Malherbe) used guerrilla art to bravely defy the Nazis in occupied Jersey during World War 2. We will also share the life stories of the actors and facilitator.
The workshop is aimed at those involved in youth groups with the LGBTQ+ Centre. It's an opportunity to engage with the amazing story of Claude Cahun in a creative and supportive setting. The workshop will be tailored to your needs as a group - open to all ages from 12-18. See you there!
