After a stunning event in May, we're hosting our communal storytelling night at Hoc Loco again in June!
We invite stories around the theme of “Fiesta!” With summer approaching, we want to hear about your parties and celebrations. Maybe you want to share a story about the summer of your life. About the best night out you ever had (or the worst!) Holidays, adventures, weddings, bar mitzvahs, wakes or festivals. Are parties your happy place? Are you in the middle of the dancefloor, or hiding under the kitchen table? All stories are welcome.
All we ask is that you open yourself up to stories that surprise you. We’re not looking for well-honed, perfect performances. You don’t need to be a performer at all. We’re creating an atmosphere to share authentic experiences from our lives; where we can listen to each other’s experiences and laugh, cry, jump and shout through the shared empathy of telling stories.
You might want to use music or poetry to accompany your story. That’s fine – but it will be a very simple acoustic setup, so please come with anything you need.
You might want to just come and listen. We’d love you to! Why tell a story if nobody is listening? There will be spaces throughout the night to
jump up and tell your own, if you’re suddenly inspired, but never any pressure.
The night will be hosted by Brave Words’ Artistic Director Chris Singleton – a storyteller trained in Playback Theatre and Improvisation – who will create a fun, respectful, relaxed atmosphere, perfect for communal storytelling. With being in Hoc Loco, you can even share cheese and charcuterie boards and natural wines while you listen.
Tickets are Pay What You Feel, on booking or at the end of the night, suggested donation £5. All donations go back to Brave Words' work running theatre activities across the most disadvantaged communities of Leeds: www.bravewords.co.uk
