Creative Spooncarving: an ecosomatic introduction

Our aim here is to develop our unique creativity, exploring in depth what wood as a natural material offers. By working sympathetically toward ourselves, the materials & tools, we can begin to make spoons that uniquely express our developing ecosomatic relationship between wood, tools & embodied skills. We will be using materials from the Roeburndale valley and taking our inspiration from the land around us.


Please remember this is a hands-on practical course and you will necessarily be using very sharp cutting tools. We will therefore start with learning how to use these tools safely. You are asked to know how to work within your own ability, understanding that wood-carving requires good hand-eye coordination alongside reasonable strength in your hands and wrists. However, assistance can be given with tricky bits where necessary, if asked. You will need to remain responsible for your own safe use of the sharpened carving-tools provided. This course is therefore taken at your own risk; the providers are not liable with respect to your health, wellbeing or safety, nor your belongings.
