Join the Museum of Art and History (MOAH) on Saturday, May 31st from 12 PM to 1 PM for a talk with m\other artist, Tanya Aguiñiga! Gain some insight into Aguiñiga’s artistic practice and learn more about the work in her exhibition, Mammalian.
About the artist:
Working with traditional craft materials like natural fibers, cotton, wool, and other textiles, artist Tanya Aguiñiga, creates sculptures and installations that converge themes of gender and nationality. Influenced by traditional Mesoamerican and pre-Columbian Latin American crafts, her practice incorporates complex woven webs of thread and terracotta objects. Aguiñiga draws on her upbringing as a binational citizen of Mexico and the United States, lending a personal narrative that helps to tell the larger and often unseen stories of the transnational community.
Along with her work as an artist, Aguiñiga is renowned as a highly skilled designer, craftsperson, and activist. She collaborates with other artists and activists to create sculptures, installations, performances, and community-based art projects. Aguiñiga has spearheaded many art-based advocacy projects, performances, and installations that focus on collective creation within communities.
