6-Week Course
Led by Miss Kate of Kind Hands Design Co. Intro to Crochet is a welcoming, hands-on fiber arts course for kids ready to explore the world of yarn! Over six weeks, students will learn how to use crochet tools, build foundational stitches, read simple patterns, and create two beginner-friendly projects: a cozy ear warmer and an adorable octopus keychain.
This class nurtures confidence, creativity, and community through slow crafting and meaningful making.
Weekly Breakdown
Week 1: Yarn + Tools + Starting Off
Meet your yarn and crochet tools
Learn how to make a slip knot and chain stitches
Begin first rows of a cozy ear warmer
Practice reading a simple pattern
Practice posture, grip, and keeping tension
Week 2: Building Skills
Continue working on ear warmers
Learn three crochet stitches and how to turn a row
Label and store individual projects
Week 3: Finishing Your First Project
Finish the ear warmer
Learn how to bind off and stitch ends together
Celebrate our first finished piece!
Introduce new stitches and shapes for next project
Week 4: Octopus/Jellyfish Keychain Begins
Learn the magic ring technique
Crochet in the round
Practice increases and stitch markers
Week 5: Tentacles + Assembly
Crochet spiral tentacles
Attach tentacles to the body
Learn how to add safety eyes and stuffing
Practice sewing on soft sculptures
Week 6: Final Touches + Show and Tell
Weave in ends and attach keychain loop
Personalize octopus/jellyfish with accessories if desired
Class reflection and share time
Intro to next steps for continuing crochet skills
