Inspired by artists like Kendrick Lamar, Charles Bukowski, and Chance the Rapper, you too can bring your voice to life as a spoken word poet.
Born in the 1980s and rooted in the oral traditions of Beat poets, spoken word draws its power not just from the written word—but from how those words hit the stage. In this workshop, we’ll tap into that tradition to help you create bold, personal, and powerful poetry based on your own lived experiences as a military-affiliated individual.
We’ll explore creative tools like rhythm, rhyme, and metaphor to sharpen your voice and amplify your message. Whether your style leans toward slam poetry, hip-hop, storytelling, or dramatic monologue, you’ll be supported in discovering what feels most true to you.
This class uses a workshop-style format: you’ll create and share original work, receive thoughtful feedback from your peers and instructor, and grow together as a community of artists. We’ll build a supportive and brave space where feedback is constructive, and collaboration drives our learning.
Our classes and workshops are free and open to anyone in the military community including service members, veterans, military family members, and caregivers. Limited spots are available, please complete an application to be accepted into this workshop:
