Introduction to Scratchboard

Content: Come enjoy an introduction to the world of scratchboard via this 6-hour class (with a 30 minute lunch break). Learn basic techniques using a variety of different tools and how to bring your image to life. Students will create a 6x6 scratchboard.
In the first hour of this six-hour class, you will learn about the different scratchboard tools that can be used for your etching. Two practice boards will be supplied to each student to allow first try out different tools and techniques. You will be able to experiment with the different effects such as stippling, cross hatching, how to create fur, etc.

In the remaining time in class, you will transfer an image to a 6x6 Ampersand Scratchboard. Each student will be working on the same image so we can work together on it. You will be given step by step instructions and one-on-one with the instructor as needed.

Materials: Students will need to bring a #11 X-ACTO knife, a pen, and notepad, but all other materials needed will be supplied for this class. (X-ACTO knife can be purchased at Walmart, Hobby Lobby, or Lowes)
