We will meet at Huron Natural Area to walk and identify early spring ephemerals.
Huron Natural Area is part of the large system of Chinnonton longhouses found in this part of the region. There are several sites where villages, fishing and hunting areas, and other types of living spaces held Indigenous existence for thousands of years.
In this walk we will identify and speak about the plants - it will include native and non-native species, we will talk about the implication of settlement, and other challenges facing park spaces with regards to urban Indigenous people.
Wear good shoes for the walk - it is a double-wide track gravel path but we will likely step off the path here and there for some bushwhacking.
Bring water, wear a hat. Walking sticks are never wrong. As usual for any place we share with deer, exercise tick smart protocols. I will post about these on the main page.
