COME PLAY BY THE LAKE ONE-ACT PLAY FESTIVAL
Fri. July 4th and Sat. July 5th; 7:30 pm
Three different one-act plays performed each evening, with the 3-judge's adjudication and awards presentation following the final play on Saturday.
Friday Evening Performances:
Tribute to Wildflower by Penny Barker - Julie and her younger sister Shannon have been best friends since childhood, until an argument leads to an estrangement. Now, in the midst of her grief, she has been called upon to give a speech at Shannon's celebration of life. With the help of a kind stranger, Julie finds a way to move past her heartbreak and pay a fitting tribute to her beloved sister.
Sea Wall by Simon Stephens - The play is a monologue set in southern France where Alex and his family are vacationing . Alec, a photographer, recounts his life , including his relationship with his father-in-law, his wife, and his daughter as he grapples with a profound sense of loss and the fragility of life.
The Fall After Midsummer by Chloe Whitehorn - Tania and Ron's fairytale romance was like a dream, until it wasn't. Ron needs help, Tania's over it, and Nick has lost his head over it all. A modern sequel to one of Shakespeare's most toxic love stories.
Saturday Evening Performances
Acorn by Harry Jordan - Three couples in love: An older couple who talk about their travels. A middle aged couple that talk about getting ready to travel, and a younger couple just starting out, talk about buying a house, having a family and one day being able to travel.
NUTZ by Kate Barker - The gang from Peanuts, now in their late 50s, get together for one last night at Marcie's Bar. But things aren't like they used to be. As MAGA thugs hurl bottles and abuse outside, the gang must come to terms with this new and frightening world.
I'll Call You Back by Valerie Winslow - The main character, Danny, age 32, has telephone conversations with his girlfriend (soon to be fiancé) and his grandmother. Calls are interrupted and confusion ensues. Add in a dialed wrong number to the mix and you have a comedy.

The play awarded Best Production may represent Domino Theatre in the 2025 Eastern Ontario Drama League One Act Play Festival to be held in Merrickville from November 7-9, 2025.
One of the four plays, not previously produced, will be awarded Best Original Play. Premiering Plays are: Tribute to Wildflower, Acorn, NUTZ, and I'll Call You Back. (Sea Wall and The Fall After Midsummer have been previously produced and thus are not eligible for consideration for this award)
Audience members attending both nights will be eligible to vote for the Audience Choice Play.
