About the event

Coledale Tree Tube Removal - Help Create a New Rainforest
Help Create a New Rainforest (Shelter Removal Day)
🗓️ 24th & 25th May 2025
📍 Coledale Valley, near Braithwaite, Cumbria
🕘 10:00–15:00
💚 Free to join (with a pay-what-you-can option)

Join us in the beautiful Coledale Valley for a special day of action, learning, and connection. Following the success of our winter tree-planting events, we’re heading back to care for the young woodland that’s beginning to grow.

Over the course of the day, we’ll carry out essential maintenance on trees planted in previous years – fixing tree tubes and removing those that are no longer needed. All removed tubes will be collected for recycling by Tubex and the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, helping reduce waste and keep the valley wild and beautiful.

This event is part of a wider project funded by Cumbria Woodlands and The Rainforest Project, who are inviting you to “Help Create a New Rainforest”.
We’re lucky to be joined by Angus Walsh, Cumbria Woodlands’ rainforest expert, who’ll share insights into the importance of temperate rainforests and the role this valley can play in their recovery.

🌱 What to expect:

- Learn about the ecology of temperate rainforests
- Work as part of a friendly team to care for young trees
- A hearty lunch (provided!)
- Tools, safety gloves and full instruction
- A beautiful half-hour walk to and from the site across uneven terrain

🥾 What to bring:
- Warm, waterproof clothing
- Sturdy footwear (ideally wellies)

This is a great opportunity to connect with nature, meet others, and play a part in restoring one of the UK’s rarest habitats.

Cumbria Woodlands is supporting the Woodland Trust and Plantlife on the #Species Survival Fund Rainforest Restoration Project.
The Cumbrian Rainforest Project is the North West strand of The Rainforest Restoration Project. It is being led by the Woodland Trust in partnership with Plantlife. This project is funded as part of the Government's Species Survival Fund. The fund was developed by Defra and its Arm's-Length Bodies. It is being delivered on behalf of Defra by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
