Friends and neighbors, it is time to clean it all up!
There is so much accumulation of trash out in the woods on public lands in our area. But: The Motherline and Cave Junction Farmer's Market have received a grant from the BLM to see if we can remove ALL the trash from the public woods! It's going to be a huge pile of work and we will need every volunteer we can possibly get, but we're so excited to do this work, and give our wild spaces a reset.
We will kick off the Clean Sweep project with the Kerby Mainline, starting on June 28, 2025. After we finish there, we'll organize additional cleanup days in the future, to tackle more trash at Rough & Ready, in Selma, in the Holland area, and Bear Creek. It's an ambitious project but there is so much community energy for getting this done - the time is right, the grant money is available, and we are thrilled to have this opportunity.
And, cleaning up the trash is only Phase I. We have a big list of ideas for changing the culture of trashing the wild spaces. Bring your ideas and hear ours while we clean up trash on June 28th!
For June 28th: we need lots of volunteers who can bag up the dispersed trash. We also need people with pickup trucks to help move the bagged and bulky trash back to the dumpsters. Please RSVP if you can come with a pickup truck!
Snacks and water will be provided! Bring gloves if you have some; we'll have a few on hand.
To find the hub on June 28th: Drive toward the transfer station on Kerby Mainline Road. Drive past all the houses, and then past the powerline swath. Less that a quarter mile past, you will see the first big pullout on the left, which is where the dumpsters will be, and we'll have a canopy and table set up. Volunteers at the table will have instructions, directions, snacks, and water for you.
