October brings "The Beauty of Color," not only to the natural landscape, but to Fischman Gallery as well. The gallery is pleased to present the work of Beverly Thomas Jenkins, her paintings and mosaics, on its walls. The exhibit opens with a reception on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
Beverly Thomas Jenkins has been in love with the arts all her life. “It is hard to describe the feeling, except to say that it is like the pull of the moon on the ocean tide, it moves me!" she says. "This pull is the reason I cannot stop creating almost every single day.” Her inspirations come from everyday people, their faces and expressions. When she travels she observes the simple beauties of nature and the human-made landscape.
Art and creating have always been in Beverly’s life, as her father is a working artist. She grew up around art every day. Originally concentrating on mosaic work, she has also become quite proficient with painting. When creating mosaics she uses chunks of glass, found objects, turquoise and other gems, natural elements such as coral, sea glass and shells, and a mix of unique glasses, namely Venetian glass, hand-poured and cut Mexican smalti, and mosaic stained art glass. Beverly's paintings are created mostly with oils, but she also uses acrylic paints, pastels, and oil sticks. She enjoys painting flowers, landscapes, and abstracts from her heart. Portraits have also taken a forefront in her art practice, with commissions accepted.
Local folks may recognize Beverly Thomas Jenkins' name. After she moved to Jonesborough, Tenn., from Texas in 1980, she married Herman Jenkins and together they founded Main Street Cafe & Catering in 1982. In 2017, they retired and their two children took over the business. “It’s the American Dream, to which Herman and I are very proud," she says. Now she can devote full time to her art.
