CC: "High Tide" Film Screening with Director Marco Calvani and Cast

QPL’s Culture Connection is honored to host a film screening and director’s talk of Marco Calvini’s 2024 romantic drama “High Tide”. The post-screening Q&A will include the filmmaker, Marco Calvani and both of his leading men, James Bland and Marco Pigossi. Taylor Purdee will moderate.

Marco Calvani is an Italian-born award-winning writer, director, producer, actor, and theater maker. His first short film, “The View from Up Here,” was originally a play commissioned by The Actors Studio and directed by Oscar®-winner Estelle Parsons. His second short film, “A Better Half,” was named Best Short of 2022 by the British Film Magazine Close-Up. “High Tide” marks his debut feature film. As an actor, Calvani will co-star alongside Tina Fey, Steve Carell and Colman Domingo in the Netflix series, “The Four Seasons” based on the 1981 Alan Alda film.

James Bland is an Emmy-nominated writer, director, and actor best known for creating and starring in the critically acclaimed series Giants. Other writing and directing credits include the HBO documentary special Insecure: The End and Peacock's The Best Man: The Final Chapters. On screen, Bland has appeared in Insecure (HBO), Always a Bridesmaid (Netflix), and co-starred in the 2024 romance drama High Tide. Recently, Bland served as a writer, director, and series regular in Unconventional, a dark comedy series.

Marco Pigossi is one of Brazil’s most talented and sought after actors of his generation. Most recently, he appeared in the Amazon hit “Gen V,” the spin-off of the smash hit series “The Boys.” For Netflix, he starred in three international shows: “Tidelands,” “High Seas,” and “Invisible City” Upcoming American projects include Ann Marie Allison’s feature debut, “You’re Dating a Narcissist,” and the comedy-horror film “Bone Lake,” directed by Mercedes Bryce-Morgan. He stars in Marco Calvani’s “High Tide,” which he also executive produced.

Taylor Purdee is an actor, filmmaker, and curator of theatrical distribution label Hope Runs High. The screenplay and original music of his film "Killian & the Comeback Kids" were preserved by The Academy in 2022. Other recent Hope Runs High favorites include triple Independent Spirit Award nominee "Chronicles of a Wandering Saint", the rediscovery and re-release of Oscar winning actor Lee Grant’s directing work, and the restoration and re-release of Tilda Swinton’s US film debut in "Female Perversions."
