BABS'LAB is thrilled to announce our continued partnership with North East Florida Immigration Resource Alliance (NEFIRA), for our highly anticipated June 13th Story Slam themed: Immigrants — The Journey, the Dream, the Reality
This year’s event features a special Story Slam—a powerful call to embrace diversity, inclusion, and the richness that immigrants bring to our communities. As part of the 12th Annual Immigrant Heritage Month, we invite people from all backgrounds to explore their roots and celebrate the shared diversity that shapes the American story.
Our theme, “ Immigrants: The Journey, the Dream, the Reality,”encourages storytellers to reflect on personal migration experiences, family traditions, cultural sayings, the food they grew up with, and the dreams that carried them forward. It’s an evening to honor not only where we come from, but how we carry those histories, recipes, languages, and values into our daily lives.

In today’s environment, immigrants need access to trusted resources. The Northeast Florida Immigrant Resource Alliance (NEFIRA) connects immigrant individuals and families with vital information and community services. By partnering with local leaders, professionals, and organizations, NEFIRA supports immigrants on their path to stability, self-sufficiency, and civic engagement.
Through storytelling, music, art, and connection, we gather to amplify voices, deepen empathy, and celebrate the beauty of cultural heritage in all its forms.

WHAT'S A STORY SLAM?
A story slam is a live storytelling friendly competition similar to poetry slams. Storytellers have 5 minutes each to tell a TRUE personal story based on a THEME chosen for the event without the use of notes.
HOW IT WORKS
•Every story slam event has a THEME.
•Audience members can prepare a story and enter their name in a hat or decide to sit back and listen.
• 10 people's names are picked from the hat.
• At the end of the evening the audience votes for their favorite storyteller.
• The winner receives a $50.00 gift certificate from Castaways Vintage to Modern, a most unique antique + record shop offering music, art, furniture, gifts, and more!
STORY SLAM RULES
• Five minute stories on the theme. There will be a 2 minute grace period. It would be a shame if we didn’t hear the ending.
•Tell us a story that has a conflict with a resolution or lesson.
•Pick a story where the stakes are high and you were emotionally invested.
•No ranting, or sermonizing.
•No notes. You won’t need them. It’s your story. Speak from your heart and Invest in what you say.
•No props. Just you.
