De-Con/Re-Con is a safe space for talking through the Deconstruction and/or Reconstruction of our Faith. Father Ryan will be available in the Nave to listen and explore together with all participants as we deconstruct old assumptions, "high-control" religious upbringing, purity culture, shame syndromes, spiritual abuse, and our journey to find healing.
In addition to deconstruction and healing, we may also feel drawn to reconstructing our faith, sometimes in the same tradition as before, and sometimes in an entirely new tradition. This is part of the Decon/Recon journey that we travel together, if so desired.
Disclaimers:
1. Although the program is held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, it is not designed to promote one parish, one denomination, or one religion. It is designed to help everyone heal from past hurts and find the path that is most life-giving for them.
2. The program is led by The Rev. Ryan Wiksell, parish priest at St. Michael's. Ryan is not a licensed therapist or spiritual director. He is an ordained Episcopal priest with experience in a variety of denominational traditions and spiritual expressions.
3. It is not our intention to denigrate or oppose any denomination, congregation or faith tradition. However, participants may express personal concerns about their religious experience or upbringing, which we will explore together. In the process, toxic patterns may be revealed which will be addressed as such, with honesty and authenticity, but without judgment toward the source of such patterns.
4. If issues come to light which require professional therapy, a referral may be made. No one present will attempt to offer such treatment.
