Join FaceNoise’s retreat choir for A View From Mam Tor, a 45-minute programme of uninterrupted a cappella music evoking the stillness and scale of the Peak District landscape. Inspired by the early morning view from Mam Tor, this concert offers a meditative yet awe-filled listening experience — music that draws wonder with the hills and breath with the sky.
The programme features rarely heard works including Meredith Monk’s Earth Seen from Above, modern reimaginings of Hildegard von Bingen’s ancient chants, and music by Frank Ticheli and John Ireland.
The concert also includes the world premiere of a new piece by FaceNoise Artistic Director, Timothy Peters. This comes from a collaboration with Artist and Storyteller Joe Winstanley from Studio Skai. He collected the folktale of Kitty Green, which mentions the very church in which the concert is taking place.
Performed in an intimate chamber choir format, this concert marks the culmination of FaceNoise’s summer retreat — and the beginning of what we hope will grow into an annual festival of bold, place-inspired music-making in the Hope Valley.
