July 7: Building Characters and Conflict
• Develop compelling characters and central conflict.
• Draft a scene and character profile for your protagonist!
Bobby Mathews' novels and short stories explore the dark and desperate underpinnings of the modern South. His novels include Living the Gimmick and Magic City Blues. His latest book is a collection of short stories called Negative Tilt. His story, "The Funeral Suit" was selected for the 2024 edition of Best American Mystery & Suspense, while his story "Negative Tilt" won the Derringer Award for best mystery story. He lives in Hoover, where he helps coach baseball and procrastinates on a near-professional basis.
