9th Annual Open House & Plant Swap
Hosted by Backyard Butterflies
The Open House
Once a year, we invite the public into our backyard butterfly habitat to explore, learn, and be inspired. This is your chance to see firsthand how you can create your own butterfly- and pollinator-friendly garden or habitat—no matter the size of your space.
We'll have a variety of butterfly nectar and host plants available for purchase, along with a FREE PLANT table (first come, first served). Plus, butterfly and plant experts will be on-site to offer guidance and answer any questions.
No plant is required to attend the Open House—just bring your curiosity and love for nature!
The Plant Swap
Our Plant Swap is all about community—helping one another grow (literally). Here’s how it works:
• Bring clearly labeled plants to swap
• Check in with the Plant Swap Assistant
• Take home the same number (or fewer) plants than you bring
• You'll be swapping with other attendees—not just us
Only butterfly- and pollinator-friendly plants, please! (See our recommended plant list on the event webpage, link provided below)
Our Story
Backyard Butterflies is a small, all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to education, outreach, and supporting pollinator habitats. Since 2012, we've transformed our two-acre property into a thriving sanctuary. We’ve hand-raised 28 butterfly and moth species, and documented 75 butterfly and 500 moth species right here in our habitat.
Please note: We love animals, but kindly leave pets at home. There are no public restrooms available. The event is outdoors with mostly flat, grassy areas that are accessible for those with mobility concerns. Reach out if you have questions or specific needs.
