Central venous catheters are useful tools to add in patient care. These can provide more advanced fluid and drug therapy administration, advanced patient monitoring, and ease of recurrent sampling. This presentation will review the physiology of accessing greater vessels and the procedures of placing various types of advanced catheters, including advantages and disadvantages. Discussion will progress to care and maintenance of the concerns and considerations of utilizing these devices.

Amber attended Morehead State University, graduating from the Veterinary Technology program in 2001. She has been working in Emergency medicine since 2004. She achieved her VTS(ECC) in 2014. Currently, she works for MedVet in Cincinnati Ohio as the Clinical Education Specialist. She has a personal interest in the subjects of CPR and Intensive Care Nursing as well as clinical skill development. She keeps the company of a small ark that includes snakes, lizards, guinea pigs, a parrot, and a goofy whippet. In her free time, she enjoys reading science fiction, practicing tai chi, making photo albums, and generally being a bit of a nerd.
