Dancing at Lughnasa by Brian Friel

Donegal, the summer of 1936.
Sisters Kate, Maggie, Agnes, Rose and Chris live as best they can outside the village of Ballybeg. Chris has a son, Michael, who lives with the sisters as does their elder brother, Jack, a priest recently returned from 25 years’ service as a missionary.
But Jack has been deeply affected by the culture he’s both experienced and, seemingly, embraced in Uganda and when Gerry, Michael’s father, returns, the winds of change begin to stir the sisters’ lives.
Exploring the themes of love, family, poverty, relationships and survival, Brian Friel’s 1990 multi award-winning play was first staged at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin.
