Griots Society to Host Annual Awards Luncheon Celebrating Culture, Leadership, and Legacy
GULFPORT, MS – The Griots Society proudly announces its Annual Awards Luncheon to be held on Friday, June 20th at 11:30 AM at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall (14255 Rippy Road).
This year’s theme, “Amplifying Our Voice: The Fight for Freedom in the 21st Century,” honors the bold leadership, cultural preservation, and community activism that define the modern struggle for justice and equity.
The keynote address will be delivered by Bobby Hudson III, Executive Director of the Griots Society, whose work has helped shape the cultural and civic landscape across the Gulfport community.
We are proud to present the following 2025 Griots Society Honorees:
• Leader in Action Award – Supervisor Kent Jones
• Service to Culture Award – Mrs. Cassandra Harper Walton
• Medal for Cultural Awareness – Mrs. Louis Hawthorne
• Harry C. Tartt Trailblazer Award – GOAL League of Distinguished Gentlemen
In addition, the Mary Spinks Thigpen Scholarship will be awarded to a student who exemplifies academic excellence, community service, and a commitment to cultural advancement.
