Afro-Kids Culture Camp: School of Culture
Afro Kids Culture Camp to Inspire and Educate Youth During 2025 Freedom Week Celebration

Gulfport, MS – In celebration of Freedom Week 2025, the Afro Kids Culture Camp will provide an engaging and educational two-day experience for local youth on Tuesday, June 17, and Wednesday, June 18, 2025. Designed to immerse children in African culture, heritage, and career exploration, this free event will take place at two locations in Gulfport and offer hands-on activities, interactive learning, and inspiring discussions.

On Tuesday, June 17, the Afro School of Culture will be held at the Climb CDC Family Enrichment Center (5001 Old Pass Road) from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Children will explore African traditions through interactive storytelling, arts and crafts, African drumming, and traditional dance lessons. This day will provide a fun and immersive way for youth to connect with their roots and celebrate cultural pride.

The learning continues on Wednesday, June 18, with Career & Possibilities Day at the Orange Grove Community Center from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This day will introduce youth to various career paths and educational opportunities through career panels featuring local professionals, hands-on STEM workshops, college readiness discussions, and financial literacy seminars.

“We want our young people to be proud of their culture while also dreaming big about their futures,” said Bobby Hudson III, Executive Director of the Griots Society. “This camp is a unique opportunity for children to celebrate their heritage and gain the knowledge and confidence to pursue their aspirations.”

The Afro Kids Culture Camp is a key part of Freedom Week 2025, a week-long celebration dedicated to honoring African American history, culture, and progress. Parents and guardians are encouraged to register their children early, as spaces are limited.
