This 8 -hour course is designed to prepare emergency responders to mitigate incidents involving anhydrous ammonia emergency releases during transportation incidents.
Participants will be provided with detailed technical information on the design construction and function of the most common types of DOT ammonia cargo tanks, nurse tanks and containers. This information will be used to educate participants on the proper methods for the containment and mitigation of ammonia releases and product transfer procedures required during a transportation emergency. The course adheres to OSHA and NFPA objectives.
The classroom instruction will include hazards of ammonia, selection of PPE and review of actual ammonia release incidents. The practical portion of the course will have instructor led demonstrations of conducting damage assessments, using ammonia response kit items for containing releases from tanks, valves and fittings that are damaged in an accident.
