Thursday, June 12 will kick off our local filmmaker series. Two local filmmakers will share an evening of screening and discussion. Elly Hiranandani and Gyuri Képes will present in June.
Elly Hiranandani will screen their short films: "Scheherazade," an adaptation of a poem by the same name; "Burnout," a story where a high school girl struggles with her mental health; and "Our Last Summer," a story about Maeve and Olivia, childhood friends, as they drift apart, and towards new people. Our Last Summer poses the question: What if I could go back, and do it all again?
Elly Hiranandani has been an artist their entire life. They were taking photographs before walking, and writing stories and poems before talking. To Elly, filmmaking is the natural amalgamation of these two mediums. Since beginning high school, they have made countless short films of varying styles and lengths, and plan to continue their relentless creative spirit at Emerson College this coming fall. Their complete body of visual work can be found at their instagram @cine.elly or online at ellyhiranandani.weebly.com
Gyuri Kepes will screen a rough cut of his latest short, "Pyg Man." A reclusive sculptor obsessed with exposing humanity's grotesque truth crafts a pig-man statue and wishes for it to come to life. When his surreal dream is granted, he’s forced into a haunting confrontation with his own flaws, as the line between man and beast blurs.
Gyuri Kepes, PhD is a practicing artist, filmmaker, and assistant professor of digital media at Holyoke Community College. In his spare time he enjoys painting, thinking of ideas for his next film, and playing soccer.
