Everyone in the family can get a close-up view of life in a 19th century stagecoach inn during this weekend of special activities at Wade House. Our curated experience begins with a horse-drawn wagon ride to the Wade House Historic Site, where you’ll meet special guests: backyard chickens, Cotswold sheep and Morgan horses. Learn about how Wade House staff cares for our animals, and meet other special farm visitors—including goats, pigs, llamas, cows and more—from Bulitz’s Petting Zoo from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Interested in crafting? Get your hands dirty alongside our tradespeople as you experience firsthand demonstrations in using the tools and techniques early settlers practiced when constructing carriages, buildings and more. Our gardener and cook will also show you how Betsey Wade, an original founder of the Stagecoach Inn, grew and prepared food for guests. As you learn, be sure to take a break and enjoy historic yard games over a picturesque picnic lunch. And bring a camera: our farm animals are ridiculously photogenic.
Families who complete a photo-based scavenger hunt will receive a special item from our gift shop. Food and drinks available for purchase.

About the Location
Wade House was constructed conveniently between the cities of Fond du Lac and Sheboygan, along a well-used road. This made the 27-room Greek Revival hotel a popular resting point for weary travelers. Three generations of the Wade family resided on the Wade House property, with the inn operating until around 1872. The Kohler family and the Kohler Foundation purchased Wade House in 1950 and began a top-to-bottom restoration. The site became property of the Wisconsin Historical Society and opened to the public in 1953. Here, visitors can journey back to the horse-powered world that existed before planes, cars, and trains. The site features the stagecoach hotel built and owned by Sylvanus and Betsey Wade, the first European settlers of Greenbush, as well as a blacksmith shop, sawmill, and the Wesley W. Jung Carriage Museum, which houses Wisconsin’s largest collection of carriages and wagons. Visitors can enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides from the visitor center to the historic core and back again.
