Saltlight : An Artist's New Journey of Light & Shadow By The Sea

Join us for an Opening Reception on June 26th for local artist, Courtney Kelly of Beach Street Studios & Gallery in Manchester-by-the-Sea. Courtney will be showing a series of oil and watercolor works inspired by her life living on the New England coast.

This series is heavily influenced by the way light and shadow juxtapose in the landscape to illustrate a vibrancy but also a calm and sense of healing.

About the Artist:

Courtney Kelly was born on Cape Ann into a family of artists. Her mother was a local ceramist and teacher and her grandmother and aunt were both painters. Courtney has shown her work in multiple locations including Shell (Rockport, MA), Essen (Manchester, MA), Laughing Gull (Manchester, MA), Honeycomb (Hamilton, MA), The Bookstore of Gloucester (Gloucester, MA). She has also shown work in juried shows - "Falling For Art" (Manchester Public Library) and "Family Promise Benefit : Silent Art Auction (Shalin Liu, Rockport).

Courtney has practiced in a variety of mediums including immersive sculpture, but enjoys the therapeutic way that painting calms her. She draws inspiration for her oil and watercolor paintings from the power of the ocean and nature which she often sees in her athletic pursuits along the water's edge. As an avid runner, she finds the ability to calm her body and mind through nature and you can see this in her work.

"Water and nature give me breath. It both charges me with energy and calms an anxious mind. When I paint a landscape I channel all of these juxtaposing emotions on to the canvas with vibrancy and bold colors. I hope that my paintings can give inspiration to others, evoking freedom, perserverance, calm or even healing."

Courtney is also the co-owner of Beach Street Studios & Gallery in Manchester-by-the-Sea.

This is a family-friendly event with art activities for all ages. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Cape Ann Art Haven in Gloucester, MA.
