Welcome to the Walls that Speak: a two-part creative writing workshop at the Gallery of Modern Art! 🎨📝
Join us on Saturday 12th October for a day of creativity through words for Black History Month 2025.
10:30am-12:30 pm - Saturday Art Club: What's in a name?
Inspired by Rabiya Choudhry’s "Dad", the neon sign visible from the entrance of GoMA, participants will write or use clay to explore names, whether chosen, given or reclaimed. All ages welcome, though this workshop is particularly aimed at families with children aged 5-12. Come in anytime between 10:30am and 12:30pm.
2-4pm - Letters to the Past and Present: imagined stories in objects linked to slavery and empire.
Using the method of critical fabulation, participants will address the lost histories in the GoMA handling kit, discuss the building's past as an enslaver's mansion, a bank, royal exchange, library and, finally, art gallery and museum. Ages 18+. This workshop lasts two hours, so please arrive by 2pm.
