Info: No More Margins is a platform dedicated to nurturing the voices of Black women through creative writing. The platform offers a unique space for Black women to share their stories, access valuable resources, and explore publication opportunities. No More Margins is committed to empowering Black women through creative expression and providing a supportive environment for growth and development.
Info: In a world that often disregards the well-being of Black women, how do we nurture ourselves while sustaining our creative practices? This workshop draws on the wisdom of Black feminist literary foremothers—such as Audre Lorde, bell hooks, Octavia Butler, and others—who framed self-care as a revolutionary act, self-love as a foundation for survival, and pleasure as a vital form of resistance.
Through guided readings, group discussions, and generative writing exercises, we will explore how these writers articulated the necessity of wellness in the face of systemic neglect. Together, we’ll dismantle mental health stigmas, share personal and collective wellness strategies, and examine how Black women writers and multi-hyphenate creatives can protect their energy.
Info: Cynthia Manick is a poet, storyteller, and curator. She is the author of No Sweet Without Brine (Amistad-HarperCollins, 2023), which received five stars from Roxane Gay, was named among the “Best Poetry of the Last Year” by Ms. Magazine, and was selected as a New York Public Library Best Book of 2023. She is the author of Brown Girl Polaris (a Belladonna chaplet), editor of The Future of Black: Afrofuturism, Black Comics, and Superhero Poetry; and winner of the Lascaux Prize in Collected Poetry for her first collection Blue Hallelujahs. Manick has received fellowships from Cave Canem, Hedgebrook, MacDowell, Yaddo, and Château de la Napoule, among other foundations.
