Protest - Galway needs a Mental Health A&E

*This protest has been organised by the family of Adam Loughnane who died by suicide in February of this year.

It's been 3 months since Adam passed but the government refuse to listen - they recently informed reporters that they don't see the need for an alternative to A&E for those who present as suicidal:

Adam did everything right but was failed at his most vulnerable. Adam’s death has encouraged hundreds of other families to share their experiences of how being sent to A&E failed their loved ones. We've contacted every TD and Adam’s story has been in every local and national media outlet. However the government and the HSE want to continue the failed process of funneling both mental and physical crisis situations through the same ED.

We are demanding a separate Emergency Department/A&E for someone who presents in a mental health crisis.

We'll be gathering in Eyre Square at 2pm and depending on the weather/turnout/atmosphere, we'll march to University Hospital Galway or the Spanish Arch for some contributions from those in attendance.

This is a part of a campaign of coordinated protests across the country on that day. A demo in Louth has already been confirmed. Ireland needs a mental healthcare system which treats everyone equally, regardless of their financial status.
