The Dirty Mother String Band is a powerhouse quartet of dynamic women musicians, united by a love of bawdy blues, early jazz, and string band music. With tight rhythms, fiery solos, and an irreverent spirit, they celebrate the music of the marginalized, especially the bold, subversive songs written by women of the 20s and 30s. Their setlist is a lively mix of vintage gems, cheeky originals, and modern tunes, delivered with grit, humor, and a rebellious heart.
Liz Rabson Schnore (Uke, Harmonica) is a multi-instrumentalist, these days playing primarily the ukulele, steeped in the roots traditions of blues, country, and string band music. She is the daughter of acclaimed blues woman Ann Rabson, from Virginia but has lived in Brooklyn for twenty-nine years. She performs with various local bands and teaches ukulele at the Jalopy Theatre School of Music. She is the music organizer at the Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club Boathouse and is active in the Brooklyn folk and roots music scene.
Sarah Gancher (Fiddle) is a playwright and fiddle player who grew up playing early jazz in Oakland, California.
Sarah Klein (Upright Bass) is an avid knitter, aspiring gardener, and upright bass player. Originally from Florida, she's currently based in Brooklyn, where she hopes to one day find a parking spot.
Alex Deane (Guitar) originally hails from Nashville where she developed a love for acoustic music and singing with dear friends. You can find her singing and playing guitar or fiddle at jams and living rooms around Brooklyn.
