About the event

Summer Intensives 2025 for Kids!!
Looking for creative enrichment for your kids! Check out our awesome "Summer Intensives" that we are offering in June! These one week class sessions, held either 10am-12pm or 1pm-3pm, offer lessons in various mediums such as drawing, painting, quilling, sculpting and more! Check out our offerings and class availability on our website at https://libertytownarts.com/art-classes/

Kids Hand building Intensive with Tiffany Yates:
New and returning students welcome! Join our kid’s hand building teacher for a week long intensive. Students will use various hand building techniques like coil, slab, pinch, to make both sculptural and functional objects! Each day will feature a new aspect of clay exploring surface patterning using Sgraffito, wax resist and pressed forms that will require students to stretch and bend their creativity along with the clay. The class is for ages 6-12.

Drawing, Crafts and Collage with Hayden Griffith:
In this course, students will work with Hayden to create artwork and crafts that utilize drawing and creative composition skills. Students will also work in collaboration with other students to create unique artworks and will learn essential drawing skills. Students will explore through DIY sketchbooks, zines, drawing collages and more! The class is for ages 9-14.

Art History and Techniques with Tanya Green:
In this Artist exploratory week, Tanya will provide a brief overview of well-known artists (such as Andy Warhol, Helen Frankenthaler, and more) and students will create various projects inspired by the artist, their style, techniques and methods. This course will cover drawing, printing, collage and painting. The class is for ages 9-13.

Pottery Wheel Throwing Intensive with Amy Kovats:
This week-long class is open to both new and returning students. In this class new students will learn to make pottery by “throwing” on the wheel, and returning students will be able to sharpen their skills. The class will focus on making a mug with handles, a small plate and a bowl. The last class day will be spent trimming and using underglazes to decorate student’s pieces they have made. The class is for ages 10-15.

Monster Makers Class with Melissa Terlizzi:
Ever think that there are creatures that don’t exist, but would if you had anything to say about it? Critters with fur and fangs; fairies with polka dot skin and butterfly wings; or sea monsters with tentacles and fins? Come put your imagination to work and learn to sculpt make-believe monsters out of polymer clay! Polymer artist Melissa Terlizzi will show you all the tricks and techniques you need to bring your colorful creations to life. The class is for ages 8-12.

Quill It Up with Svetlana Lechkina:
Quilling is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. On the first day students will learn a number of basic shapes, their names, how they are created, and the students will have their own chart to help them remember all of them. On the second day students will try using not just a quilling tool but a quilling comb as well and learn a variety of shapes that can be created with it. On day 3 and 4 students will be making small designs from the kits Lana has prepared. Day 5 is the day for your own imagination and creation! The class is for ages 8-15.

All Things Canvas with Elizabeth Seaver:
Canvas is one of an artist’s most frequently used materials. But if you think it can be used only for framed paintings, come find out what a fun material it can be! Each student will learn new ways to create with canvas and will go home with at least three pieces of art using it. (Spoiler: Students will make a three-dimensional creature of your own design!) The class is for ages 6-9.

Chinese Brush Painting with Hsi-Mei Yates:
Chinese brush painting has been a part of over two thousand years of Chinese culture. Following this tradition students will learn the basics of Chinese brush painting featuring a different theme each day. At the beginning of the course, there will be an introduction to the supplies that will be used each day in class: Ink, bamboo brushes, rice paper, a watercolor set, mixing plates, felt and water containers. Every class will also focus on achieving assorted styles of brushstrokes. The overall goal of the class is to be creative and expressive through great artwork! The class is for ages 7-14.

Visual Narratives and Sequential Art with Tiffany Yates:
The art of storytelling has existed for as long as humans themselves, taking new form with each medium it interfaces with. Sequential art is art that is presented in a certain order to communicate something to a viewer. In this class students will explore story telling through painting, drawing and crafting; making animations, comics and pop-up art. Class is for ages 10-16.

Experiments in Printmaking with Elizabeth Seaver:
Students will dive into three kinds of artistic printmaking, by creating a variety of printmaking surfaces and printed projects throughout the week. Students will begin by designing a printmaking block called a collagraph, which will produce a print for framing. We will draw, design, work in black ink and use vibrant color, all in this week of messy extravaganza!! The class is for ages 10-16.
